Sobra Moon
Standing at the dock is a man with a sing and our name is on it!
Great, our small B & B was ready for us and he drove the 2k to the dock. Good thing too. There is nothing around the dock. Nothing. The tiny town is up the road around the harbor.
We hope in his Fiat and I reach for the seat belt instinctively.
"Oh, you don't have to buckle it here," said our host.
"Why not?" I ask.
"Ah, the police don't come out to this island but every three days.
For some reason, that answer made we want to buckle it all the more.
All of Croatia seemed to be in one place...in the center of the ancient Walled City of Dubrovnik. I can't complain, but after a couple days it seemed good to be on the Adriatic as we lined up at the ferry terminal and headed northwest to the relatively small island of Mljet.
I knew the ferry terminal was a ways from the B&B and I knew that we were expected at the place today, but since I had docked here the other day before landing in Dubrovnik, I was wondering how we'd get from the terminal to the room.
Problem solved when our host stood at the dock with our name written on a piece of notebook paper (Thanks Airb&b). We hopped in the little red Fiat....dutifully did not buckle up....And I just checked off one more thing on my bucket list which include climbing Kilimanjaro, sailing the South China Sea, and unbuckling my seatbelt on the Croatian Island of Mljet.
Breaking all the rules and living on the edge.
Indeed there was little chance of encountering other cars on the road but the chance of tumbling off the road into the Sea was rather high. Our driver ignored the one and only Stop sign on the road (probably the only one on the island)...secure in the knowledge that a run stop sign would only be heresay evidence by the time the cops re-visited the town in three days.
This IS a rather quiet little town nestled in the curve of a bay on the island just off the southern coast of Croatia. We came to see the National Park at the other end of the island and we'll have to rent a car since there is little bus service.
We arrived at our apartment and glanced around town....and Makaila remarked to me...."Hmmm, I wonder if we made a mistake in staying 2 and half days. There is not much to see."
The greater question was....would 2 1/2 days be enough time.
After a week of rather frantic traveling in the three main cities of Croatia and a couple long train and ferry boat rides....
....And some of the busier of the attractions of this Adriatic country situated due east of Italy,
It was time to let our spirits catch up with us.
As the sun went down we returned to our place and I looked up at our window and also at the house number in front our place here in Sobra.....and this is it below.

Lovely pictures again, Bob and Makaila!
